CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Yes, Jesus thirsted!:

Knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”— John 19:28

In this statement, Jesus expressed a need that anyone of us as humans could have said: “I am thirsty.” Of all the needs of the human body, water is one of the most basic. More than 60 percent of the human body is water! As we become dehydrated, our blood vessels and other cells begin to dry up.

By the time Jesus spoke these words from the cross, he had already been hanging there for more than six hours, and his body was becoming parched. Foreshadowing this moment, Psalm 22:15 says, “My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.” These words remind us that “the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). Yes! He came into the world born in flesh like you and I and went through trials and temptations and displayed the depth of His love on the cross. He suffered and even felt thirst just like us.

At the center of the Christian faith is not a remote and distant God but a loving and understanding God who wants us to willingly believe in Him and the fulfilled work of redemption. He’s given us proof after proof that He is who He says He is; “being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death even death on a cross! Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, … and every tongue acknowledges that Jesus Christ is Lord... Philippians 2:7-11.

Putting our trust in Jesus is primary.

PRAYER

Lord, you alone understand our pains and suffered in our place on the cross. Thank you for being human to rescue us. Halleluiah!
