They need our Prayers
Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. — Jeremiah 29:7
During the year my family and I lived in Yobe we planted flowers everywhere we were posted for pastoral assignments. By God’s grace, this attracted neighbors to make use of the flower sides for snapping pictures; which also help build a new face of relationship.
God’s prophet Jeremiah relayed the message that God’s people would be in the foreign city of Babylon for many years v11-12. They were commanded to “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; … Increase in number there; do not decrease”. God had plans and purposes beyond anything they could have dreamed or imagined Acts 17:26-27. For whatever length of time God plants us in unfamiliar and perhaps uncomfortable surroundings, his vision is for much more than our day-to-day existence and passing time. When you put down roots and “seek the peace and prosperity” of any place where God sends you, you will also develop the heart to pray for that community. The promised harvest that comes with cultivated obedience to this command is that “you too will prosper” v7b.
Remember the words of Paul, the apostle in 1 Timothy 2:1-3 “I urge, then, first of all, that …, prayers, … be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior”. We are obligated to pray for all men. Let our prayers count.

PRAYER
Lord, move us to pray and work for the peace and prosperity of the communities where you have placed us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
