They need Answers
“Always be prepared to answer everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. — 1 Peter 3:15
One of life’s hard-learned lessons is the importance of preparation. Whether it is for a test at school, training for athletic activities, readying for a job interview or sharing the good news of life in Jesus Christ.
Preparation for engaging in Jesus’ daily mission begins with Peter’s wise counsel: “In your hearts revere Christ as Lord.” Our effectiveness depends on a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus. We must be fully devoted followers of Jesus.
In the surrounding context of this verse, Peter emphasizes godly living. He calls us to “be compassionate and humble,” “do good; seek peace and pursue it,” and keep “a clear conscience.” Practicing godly behavior each day is part of the preparation that will yield fruitful opportunities to share the good news with others.
Indeed, when Jesus is at the center of our lives, others will notice the difference, our joy, peace, and even the hopefulness about life and may eventually ask why. If we are prepared, we can give the reason for our hope and joy.
Paul said to Timothy “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” 2 Timothy 2:15. Our meditation on the scripture also places a very important role in our preparation. Therefore, we must make time to study it for it “is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
PRAYER
Lord, prepare me as a living testimony of your grace. By your Spirit, help me answer people’s questions about faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
