The Vow of Commitment
Your people will be my people and your God my God. — Ruth 1:16 Ruth the Moabite made a beautiful vow of commitment to her mother-in-law, Naomi. Ruth promised to walk alongside her, to change nationalities, to worship God, and to do this for the rest of her life. How did she come to make such a deep commitment? Could Ruth have seen and experienced the love of God through her husband, Naomi her mother-in-law, or the entire family?
Jeremiah 32:38 “They will be my people, and I will be their God”. Matthew 28:20 “… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Ruth’s commitment to Naomi gives us a picture of God’s commitment to us. Yes! first, it was to Israel and then to us the Church. Our faith in God through Christ has ushered us into such a fellowship. In essence, God says to each of us, “I will go where you go. Where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people.” God has sworn that nothing in heaven and on earth will ever separate us. What an honor!
We have all reasons to celebrate this truth. God came to us in the person of Jesus Christ. At tremendous personal cost, the Son of God became one of us Philippians 2:7 Galatians 4:4. Jesus went where we go, he lived as we live, and he even took on our death so that we would never need to be separated again from God’s love or God’s presence. May these words give us comfort courage and peace as we journey daily through each day from earth to our heavenly home. EMMANUEL. Halleluiah!

PRAYER
Lord, we want to show you and our neighbors love. Help us to do that by keeping your commandments. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
