The Praying Man
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home …. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed …, just as he had done before. — Daniel 6:10
As soon as Daniel knew a document had been signed that; anyone who prays and worships anyone besides the king will be killed. Daniel did not relent nor seek to find a loophole. No. Daniel believes that prayer is more important than life itself. He was willing to die so that he can pray. Daniel’s habits of prayer were known to the people around him. He practiced this act of faith openly before his community. There was no question of where Daniel’s allegiance centered. The king himself commented about the God whom Daniel continually served (Daniel 6:16). How important is a prayer to you? Daniel was willing to risk his life for prayer. Is prayer that important to us? For Daniel, this is not just an activity he does at the beginning of meals, or quickly to start the day, or quickly to end the day; this is more important than life for Daniel. Intimacy with God; time spend with God, this is more important than anything. If your hearts like mine just resounds “Yes, prayer is more important to me than life. Then I want to encourage you to take Daniel 6:10 as an encouragement to go even deeper in your time in prayer, even longer in your time in prayer. This is right. Let’s grow in it.
Jesus said in Luke 18:1 “… men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”. When Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, “Yet not as I will, but as You will,” He offered a tremendous but seemingly simple insight into prayer: God is in charge. This is an overarching principle that must be kept in mind.
PRAYER
Lord, help us establish a prayer lifestyle, that will honor you. Give us the right understanding of prayer. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
