The Lord’s return
They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power & glory. —Matthew 24:30
No one likes to wait. But we wait in traffic, in payment queue, for the doctor, for a spouse, for a baby, Etc., and most importantly for Jesus to return. Waiting on the Lord may be one of the most difficult aspects of the Christian life. When Jesus promised that he would return, he instructed his followers to wait. That is easier said than done. So, what do we do in the meantime?
As I meditate on God’s word, I discovered that waiting is not just something we have to do while we get what we want but rather the process of becoming what God wants us to be. Those who wait are those who work because they know their work is not in vain. The farmer can wait all summer for his harvest because he has done his work of plowing the ground, sowing the seed, and watering the plants. Those who wait on God can go about their assigned tasks, confident that God will provide the meaning and conclusions to their lives and the harvest to their toil will reap a reward. The church has been waiting for the return of Christ for more than two thousand years. That’s a long time. So, it’s not surprising that some people have given up and many have grown cold in their belief of the word. Jesus knew how hard it would be for us to wait. That’s why he gave us a host of signs that point to his coming. Some of those signs speak of a world experiencing the brokenness of the fall, earthquakes, famines, wars, and rumors of war. Other signs speak of a world experiencing the power of grace: the proclamation of the gospel to all nations.
Today, both kinds of signs are very much with us. That means our anticipation of Christ’s return should be fresh and lively. Yes! What Christ has begun; he will finish. Therefore, let’s live in the daily hope of the Lord’s return.

PRAYER
Lord, help us not to lose a sense of how important your coming back can be so that we may hold firm our faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
