The great catch
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. — Luke 5:6-7
Peter knew Jesus was a great teacher and that He could even heal the sick. What he was about to learn, however, was that Jesus wants people to succeed in their careers. Peter probably had the best nets, owned a good boat, and knew exactly where to catch the most fish. And his income depended on a good catch. But after fishing all night and catching nothing, Peter made the best move of his life: He allowed Jesus to get involved in his business by yielding to his counsel in v5: “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” The question here is: Did you know that God wants you to succeed in your career too not just your spiritual life? Too often we try to separate the secular from the spiritual; we have our Christian life nicely partitioned off from our career. But what God desires of us is to make him the Lord of both our secular and spiritual life. When we realize this, we’ll begin to operate according to the principles of Scripture. Here’s one of God’s success principles for our business or career: “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do” Joshua 1:8 NLT.
God, who’s the CEO of the universe, says: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go” Isa 48:17 NKJV. Just like Peter, God wants us to take his counsel to heart even when all hope is gone. He wants us to trust in him even when it is impossible. For with him, all things are possible. Matthew 19:26.

PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your plans for me to succeed both in my secular and spiritual life. In your word, I hope. in Jesus’ name. Amen.
