CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

The Final Sacrifice:
We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all. — Hebrews 10:10.
The Bible tells us that Jesus drew his final breath at three o’clock in the afternoon (Luke 23:44-46). That was an important time in Jerusalem, for it was the time of the afternoon sacrifice, and because it was Passover week, the Passover lambs were being sacrificed at the Temple. It was customary also for the priest to blow a horn at the time of the sacrifice a ram’s horn, called a shofar; Lev. 23:24. So, at the same time when Jesus breathed his last, the shofar could be heard. As the Passover lambs were being sacrificed in the Temple, the Lamb of God was being sacrificed on the cross. In God’s plan, never again would a sacrifice be needed. Yes! The main plan from the beginning was always Christ; Genesis 3:15. This was just as John the Baptist had prophesied: “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Notice the contrasts: many priests vs. Christ as our one High Priest; many sacrifices vs. the one sacrifice of himself; repeated offerings vs. one offering for all time; and one you might have missed: notice that (verse 11) "every priest stands daily;" but when Christ has made his single sacrifice, he (verse 12) "sat down at the right hand of God."
The sitting of Christ at God's right-hand means firstly that the work is done. He does not "stand daily" to offer sacrifices for sin. The one sacrifice of himself was perfectly complete. Secondly, it means that God is satisfied with the sacrifice. God honors Christ with the seat at his right hand to show how fully he is satisfied with the debt paid for sin. This is a great picture to encourage us that our sins are fully dealt with. And thirdly, it means that Christ, together with his Father, is the sovereign ruler over all v13. Halleluiah!

PRAYER
Lord, thank You for the one sacrifice to make us holy, fit for eternal life with you. Let this truth inspire me always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
