The Father’s plan

… do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. …to preserve for you a remnant.… —Genesis 45:5-7 Parenting is a task filled with diverse experiences. Parents care deeply for their children. They want to run ahead of their children to make sure that they have the best of life. But parents have limited resources to control the future. They cannot save their children from the pain of tragedy or bad mistakes. Human parents have limited ability to bring good out of every road their children might take. In the care of ordinary mothers and fathers, I see a reflection of the divine care of the heavenly Father.

As I study, I have to discover that providence means “to see ahead.” Unlike ordinary parents, our divine Father has a perfect vision concerning the future. After all, history itself is in God’s hands. That doesn’t mean he always saves us from foolish mistakes or painful tragedies. But it does mean that when our lives are caught up in the life of Christ, he guides us in ways that bring us an ultimate blessing. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”, Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”. Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, …. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

What an honor to be in God’s plan and to have him as a Father. Halleluiah!

PRAYER

Lord, thank you for your plan for us. Help us to trust you, even in the darkest hours. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
