Tell Peter D24042022

RENEW REFRESH REFOCUS

CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Tell Peter:

“Go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’” — Mark 16:7.

Be sure to tell Peter. Why was Peter singled out? Peter, who denied his Lord, needs to know that he is risen according to his word. Peter needs the assurance of the resurrection and that all his sins are forgiven. Peter must know that he has nothing to fear. This is a word of reminder as is evident from the last part of the text,” ...as He said unto you.” This takes us back to the night of Jesus' betrayal; Matthew 26:31 “… all ye shall be offended because of me this night, for it is written, I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered.” And to Peter; "Simon, Simon, Satan hath desired to sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for thee that thy faith fails not." But Peter didn't heed the warning! Instead, he began to boast.Luke 22:31-32.

Just as with Peter, the gospel comes to us personally. It doesn't come to us to tell us all about how others sin and deny the Lord. It says to you and it says to me, YOU are the sinner. The gospel reminds us first of our sins; our denials, our backslidings, and our shortcomings. It does so to drive us to our knees in godly sorrow and repentance. 2 Corinthians 7:10 “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation …, but worldly sorrow brings death”. In this beautiful and essential affirmation to a disciple who failed, we find the indisputable evidence that he has been forgiven: “Tell . . . Peter”! Replace Peter’s name with your own. Of all the great benefits of the resurrection, forgiveness is the indisputable evidence that we can understand that Jesus has taken care of our sin and restored our relationship with him. Halleluiah!

PRAYER

Lord, I am honored that you have called me by name to be restored just like Peter. Keep me strong in faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
