My plans for the day
A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. — Luke 14:16
When we send out an invitation, it’s natural to expect a response.
In this parable, the Master invites many people to his banquet. But when the time comes for the feast, all sorts of excuses are given. “I have to go and check on some property I bought.” “I have to go and test-drive my new oxen.” “I just got married—sorry, I can’t come” v18-20. We could argue that some of these excuses don’t sound so bad, but they are excuses nonetheless.
“Go out and invite more people! Go to the streets and alleys, the country lanes and roads, and urge the people to come.” Said the Master. Yes, the Master felt bad and sad but was still determined to fulfill the purpose as designed for those invited. His plans for the day still stand v23-24.
Many of us have grown used to making excuses when it comes to the primary things that are meant for our spiritual empowerment as designed by God. We allow our will to conflict with God’s will and purpose. “I have something else to do.” “I have other people to see.” Or maybe our excuses are more personal: “I don’t feel like going”.
As we fellowship with God, we must be careful not to allow our plans to conflict with God’s plans for us.

PRAYER
Lord, create in me the will to always accept your plans even when my plans sound appealing and noble. In Jesus’ name Amen.
