Love Is Kind
Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-by, but Ruth clung to her. — Ruth 1:14
Verse 3-5 of today's Scripture presents Naomi's condition as worse off than her two daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth. Yes! They were young and can likely marry again and have children of their own. But Naomi was not hopeful about her future v11-13. She feels bitter and empty. And she holds God responsible for the deaths that have robbed her of so much v20-21. Where is God in Naomi's life?
Let's look at Ruth’s actions of kindness to answer this question. Ruth doesn't need Naomi to get on with her life, but she acts kindly toward her mother-in-law by tenaciously clinging to her in love. Ruth's act of KINDNESS to Naomi tells us of her loving heart to a hopeless Woman; giving us a picture of God’s loving action toward a hopeless world that has been weighed by sin.
Paul said in Romans 7:24-25 “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! …” As sinner our condition was hopeless but God gave us hope. Romans 5:8 “God commended his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Philippians 2 :3 “… having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: …”.
Our faith in Jesus Christ the hope of Glory Colossians 1:27; has given us the confidence to face the future and live for eternity. When love moves us to be kind, God can do "immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine" Ephesians 3:20.

PRAYER
Lord, develop in us the right heart to love. Use our acts of kindness to renew the faith, hope, and love of others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
