Love = Christ lifestyle

These three remain faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. — 1 Corinthians 13:13

Loving one another isn’t a matter of warm, unclear feelings and pounding hearts. It’s a matter of doing the right thing because that’s what Jesus would do. Love as described in 1 Corinthians 13 is best understood as a way of life, lived in imitation of Jesus Christ, that is focused not on oneself but on services as designed by God. Yes! Love often calls for doing the unexpected and going beyond expectations all for the glory of God.

As followers of Jesus, we know that love is not something we can just opt to do or not do. Loving “one another” is often challenging. It may call us to love the prodigal child, an aging parent, and a difficult spouse. It may also involve loving someone who is always negative and critical either in church or working place. And it may mean foregoing something valuable so that someone else can have it.

Colossians 3:14 “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. “Ephesians 3:17 “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love”, To “know the love of Christ” is to experience his presence “through faith” in our “hearts.” God’s people are to look and become more and more like Christ, and it is this for which Paul prays here. What’s more, we can show a love that can stand the test of time only by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. If we’re asked why we are show­ing love, we can answer, “Because we’re disciples of someone who loves us. We do it for Jesus’ sake.”

PRAYER

Lord, help us to see others as you see them and make us a reflection of your love in actions and words to them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
