Living for the truth
Having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.
Unlike the unbeliever who possesses a callous, corrupt heart and a sinful mind, Paul reminds the Christians in Ephesus that they are no longer who they were. They are new creatures, renewed in Christ with a changed heart that results in a changed mind. God puts a new desire in us that makes us want to live differently than before. One who is saved should: look different, act different, walk different, talk different, and think differently. We are not to allow the fleshly desires to control us any longer We are to walk in holiness and the newness of life Peter 1:16 “Be ye holy; for I am holy”. When a “professing believer” still lives like the world, they are either deceiving themselves, or they are liars. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. ...” 2 Corinthians 5:17.
In today’s scripture, Paul calls us all who believed, to passionately keep living with the right identity as one body in Christ. Yes! We are different, and that must be seen in the way we live. One of the differences is speaking the truth. We no longer deceive; we no longer “twist” the truth; We speak and live for the truth. Truthfulness is a marker of what it looks like to be one of Christ’s renewed people. Therefore, our minds must be renewed daily by the Word of God and by the Spirit of God. When a man’s thinking is changed, his life is changed Proverbs 23:7. Philippians 2:5 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus …”. Christ alone is our example 1 Peter 2:21.
PRAYER
Lord, we seek to be the new people you have renewed us to be. Help us to always speak and live for the truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
