Let’s give THANKS

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

The news is bad every day. Jobs are being lost, homes are being destroyed, there are wars everywhere in the world, gas prices high, fuel price have gone up. For many, things are hard because their loved ones have been taken by death, their lands are under siege by the enemy, their farms destroyed, love ones kidnapped. Things have gotten so bad that the feeling of Thanksgiving is not on the first top three of our priority. And the dilemma is: Why should we give thanks when everything is not working as we have planned and even the world seems to be crumbling and nothing seem to be getting better with all our prayers?

It may help to note that Paul is not saying we should be thankful for all circumstances but in them. When things seem to go against us, I think God expects us to be grateful that his hand holds us and helps us to endure under the strain. The big challenge here is to look for reasons to be thankful in all circumstances, even when the going is tough.

Let me suggest that today you sit still where you are and exercise the gift of noticing. Notice what you see, what you have, and who is with you. Notice the beauty, and variety around you. Keep noticing, and make a list of all God’s gifts, love, protection, faithfulness, grace, and etc., you notice. Then give thanks to God.

Yes! We have reasons to rejoice always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances, to God the great giver and sustainer of Life. Halleluiah!

PRAYER

Lord, thank you for everything. To you be all the glory, honor and majesty. Halleluiah. Amen.
