Jesus’s visit

"Prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God" — Isaiah 40:1-5

If the president or the governor is visiting a particular area, security will be highly placed and certain streets will be blocked off so that the president or governor could move without obstacles to his or her destination. In Isaiah's day, if a king or dignitary was going to visit, the way would have to be prepared also. This often meant repairing roads, removing fallen trees or other obstacles, and eliminating all detours so that there would be no barriers to the king's arrival. Isaiah tells us that similarly, we are to "prepare the way for the LORD."

At Christmas, we celebrate the coming of the King of Kings, so it's important to celebrate with a prepared heart by removing the obstacles that stand between us and a right relationship with God. Perhaps our hearts are filled with hatred or bitterness toward someone, and this stands between us and the Lord. Perhaps there are things in this world that are more important to us than God; those things stand as a barrier between us and the Lord. Perhaps there are other sins we have allowed to have control in our hearts, each one is a barrier, an obstacle that will surely hinder our celebration with the right heart. Let’s remove the barriers. Yes! a prepared heart that is in the right relationship with the Lord matters for a glorious celebration of Christmas.

PRAYER

Lord, remove in my life all that are barriers to my fully enjoying your will for me. Prepared me for your service. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
