Jesus’ Family Values

For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother. — Mark 3:35

Are you feeling misunderstood and rejected by your family today?

One of our greatest tests of faith as those who have confessed Jesus as Lord and savior will be our earthly family members who don’t understand you or share your values and vision. This calls for wisdom and grace on your part.

Now; let’s make one thing very clear right at the start. In saying this, Jesus was not rejecting His earthly family. Despite His family’s inability to understand Him, Jesus continued to care for them and respect them. However, He refused to let them dictate to Him or alter the assignment He believed God had given Him. His priority was the people who had gathered to hear what He had to say. Indeed, Jesus’ actions and words redefine intimate relationships, the boundaries, and nature of which had been developed and built up over ages of man’s custom. Jesus, wants us to understand that the boundaries of “family” as designed by the Father are expanded beyond blood relatives, spouses, and even children to include those who hunger for a relationship with God and are willing to do God’s will. The fact here is that what counts in life’s journey are the choices one makes after one is born, not the people one is related to through no personal decisions.

Jesus’ truest kin are those who do the will of His Father. Therefore, having the right relationship with God makes us family. Obedience to God is thicker than blood.

PRAYER

Lord, help me to live as Jesus lived; facing head-on those who misunderstand me even my loved ones. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
