CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Jesus, a Friend Indeed
Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me… I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need — Luke 11:5-8
Do you have a friend? Why do you call him/her friend? Does he/she regard you as a friend too? Think about these for a while.
Many of us, at one time or another, need a friend to talk to or lean on. Sometimes life gets the best of us, and in our need, we turn to someone we are confident of, and we hope that somehow, we’ll find some relief. But sometimes friends let us down. Sometimes the people we turn to don’t understand or, worse, don’t care. Sometimes we misread the people we confide in and they betray our confidence. And some friends, like the one in the parable, help only because they can’t get out of helping. But there is one Friend who never lets us down: The Lord Jesus. He is the Friend who is always there, who never puts us on hold, and who never turns us away. And even though he doesn’t always give us what we want, or what we think we need, he knows which is the best and his arms are always wide open for us so that we can come and find rest.
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29. Jesus is the one Friend we can’t do without.
