I need the Bible
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, … training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. — 2 Timothy 3:16
What do you love reading & listening to? God desires for man to set priority to what to read and listen to. Joshua 1:8 “meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous …”. Reading and listening to the Scripture (Bible) should be part of our priorities for a better understanding of our faith and fellowship with God. Yet the Bible often lies around unread. Why?
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 3:18. Whether we realize it or not, growing in understanding of God starts as an intellectual pursuit. We must engage our minds because it is there where we process information that helps us begin to understand who God is. Sometimes, connecting our minds doesn’t seem very spiritual, but it is and most importantly it starts the process. Jesus even commanded us in loving God that we love him with all our heart, soul, and mind (Matt. 22:37). However, for us to know God, it must become more than just a mental or intellectual pursuit. If it never advances beyond that, then we will end up with an academic understanding of who God is and not move to a relationship with him. That’s why many of the Pharisees that the Bible accounted for were able to quote Scripture and knew the law, but missed who Jesus was. Their knowledge was intellectual and never moved beyond that. The Bible is honest about everything in life. It is the truth given to us by God. Therefore, it should be our passion as believers to meditate on the Scripture so that we may grow in knowledge and understanding of God as He desires.
PRAYER
Lord, there are so many voices telling me what to believe. Help me to listen to you and learn from your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
