CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

I am a Pilgrim
“The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.” —Genesis 47:9-10.
One writer said: “Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and then hoping that the other person dies.” What a pity!
Jacob had many reasons to hold a grudge: his days had been difficult. Remember, Jacob was a liar and deceiver who tricked his brother out of his birthright and blessing and had to run away from his family because his brother wanted to kill him as a result. Subsequently, he was exploited by his father-in-law and was the object of a conflict between his two wives. He had many sons no doubt, but his sons grieved him. They were mass murderers and sinned greatly. In his later years, his beloved wife, Rachel, died, and his son Joseph was sold by his other sons. What a life. This was the man God called and chose to use. He might have despaired, but we find his perspective was quite different. He framed the “few and difficult” years of his life in the context of a PILGRIMAGE. He knew that life was not just an accumulation of one problem after another but was a journey directed by God himself and He alone has the final say. As Jacob found peace in the prism of life as a pilgrimage, so can we.
Life has its challenges and trials, but we can find comfort and strength in the love and care of our God, who is interested in shaping and sharpening us to live for his glory. With so many terrible happenings and changes going on in this world, we may wonder where God is leading us. Through it all, God wants us to trust Him and keep living for his glory to the end.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to keep living for your glory as a pilgrim. Make me an embodiment of encouragement to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
