Holy Spirit; The Mentor

“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” — John 14:26

As Jesus tells his disciples that he was leaving, he shares the good news about a new mentor. Jesus announces that the Spirit of truth is coming to be with his followers forever. The Spirit has many mentoring roles in the lives of believers. Among other things, the Spirit reminds us of what Christ has taught us. The Spirit produces fruit in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23). The Spirit convicts us of our sin (John 16:8). The Spirit testifies about Jesus and challenges us to testify also (John 15:26-27).

Philippians 2:13 “… for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose”, Galatians 5:16-17 “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires ….”. The Spirit mentors us day by day without getting tired nor having us to schedule an appointment. All we need is a willing heart to hear and obey as He leads, instructs and reminds of God’s will, convicting our hearts and reshaping our lives to walk in His power as sons and daughters of God “… born of God” “… born of water and the Spirit …” John 1:12-13 and 3:5. It is also our duty to honor and respect the Holy Spirit Ephesians 4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption”.

God has placed his Spirit within us to focus us on the truth. Therefore, let’s follow and walk in the Spirit, allowing Him to do his transforming work in us and others.

PRAYER

Lord, let your Spirit always take the lead in my life. Transform and produce within me the Spirit fruit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
