CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

God, The Father:

When Jesus quoted Psalm 31:5 in his final words on the cross, he added the word “Father.” As he prayed, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46), Jesus was clinging to the amazing truth that the God of the universe was his Father! In our reading for today, we find that this was Jesus’ most radical teaching because it meant he was “making himself equal with God.” This made the religious leaders so angry that they wanted to kill him because they didn’t believe in him as the Son of God.

Remarkably, Jesus invites us to call God our Father as well. He told his disciples, “This … is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name …’” (Matthew 6:9). When a person is truly born again, there is not only a change of position, as they are translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light, the fatherhood of Satan to the fatherhood of God, but there will be a lifestyle change. They begin to have an intimate relationship with their Father through the Spirit. If you want to judge how well we understand our faith in Christ, we need to find out how much we make of the thought of being God’s children and having God as our Father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls our worship and prayers and our whole outlook on life, it means that we do not understand the Christian faith very well at all. Everything that Christ taught, is summed up in the knowledge of the Fatherhood of God. “Father” is the Christian name for God. Therefore, understanding the fatherhood of God is crucial to our spiritual health and spiritual growth.

PRAYER

Father, help me to trust you completely. Remind me that I can trust you with my entire life just like Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
