God, the Father

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. … by him, we cry, “Abba, Father.”

—Romans 8:15

The absence of godly fathers at home is one of the major problems today that confronts the family and world. Young men who grow up in homes without a faithful, loving, and responsible father often think that violent behavior defines real manhood. Young women who also grow up without a faithful, loving, and responsible father often develop hatred and unhealthy relationships with men. The creation story presents God to us as a faithful, loving, and responsible Father who cares and wants the best for his creation. A lesson for all men, and parents for nurturing their children for tomorrow’s society. If only Adam and Eve have stayed focused and true to such a relationship with a faithful, loving, and responsible Father, things will not have messed up. Paul reminds us that the work of Jesus leads to the pouring out of the “Spirit of sonship” on all who believe. Christ’s Spirit poured out at Pentecost brings us into a new relationship with God, the Father. God is our Father because we are adopted as children through the work of redemption. We can now call God “Abba.” That’s the close, intimate name that a small Jewish child uses when speaking to his or her father.

Yes! God is our Father. He is faithful, loving, and responsible. He cares and wants the best for us. Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”. Hallelujah!

Let’s stay true to such a relationship so that things will not mess up.

PRAYER

Lord is an honor to have you as a father and to be part of your family. Help me to stay true in fellowship with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
