God’s handwork
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. —Psalm 19:1
What can we know about God by gazing into the heavens?
Psalm 19 invites us to slow down and take a look at the Heavens. Gaze into the heavens by day and night. Look at how decorated the heavens stands out. This is God’s handiwork and we see His wisdom and glory because of the intricate details. If creation is so magnificent, how amazing must God be? We also know something of God’s power as we gaze up into the heavens. We wonder how He did it? How did God create everything? When we look up to heaven, it’s as if we’re looking at a detailed painting by an amazing artist. What do we think of when we look at a painting? We usually think that someone painted it and then we critique it and think if it is good or bad.
As I look at creation as God’s epic painting, I have come to learn that as humans we are in the painting. And we can gaze up into the heavens that God painted with the brush of His Word and understand that the God who painted this landscape of the universe is a glorious Creator. In the ancient world, the sun was considered by many to display the greatest glory and to be the greatest of the gods. But in Psalm 19, the sun is only a wonder of God’s creation v4. Yes, it makes a daily run through the heavens like a taxi driver that takes the passenger round through the town to his or her destination. But it remains a pale reflection of God’s brilliance; a mere pointer to true divine greatness. Therefore, as part of creation ourselves we are created to think and evaluate. We look into this world and see God’s handiwork everywhere. We see it and are held accountable for the things we see. Creation is amazing and awe-inspiring but must not be worshiped. God, The Creator is the One we must worship not His handwork.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to slow down & see your handwork as you desire that I may stand in awe of your glory and worship you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
