Eyes on Jesus.

— Hebrews 12:1-3

The best way to go straight toward something is to keep looking at it as we go.

This is the truth that can be drawn in today’s verse as the writer of Hebrews illustrate the Christian life as a race; stressing that we should focus on the destination by fixing our eyes on Jesus Christ. This points out to us that Jesus is the best example we need for making it to the finish line. Remember, Jesus was doing this in His humanity for the joy of saving us as designed by God; the Father. He endured the cross, despising the shame. 1 Peter 2:20-22 … “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps …” Paul tells us the same in Philippians 2:5-8 "Make your attitude that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His advantage. Instead, He emptied Himself …, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death - even to death on a cross."

With this lifestyle Jesus wants us to know that we can also do it if only we follow in his footsteps as God the Father desires. When Paul realizes this truth, he testified of it to the Saints by saying “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. ...” Philippians 4:13. Therefore, It is very important for us to know that we are not running on our strength but rather in the strength of Jesus Christ; who shows us the course, demonstrates the proper attitude, sets the pace and leads us to victory.

PRAYER

Lord, help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus despite all the distractions and discouragement each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
