CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

Doing it my way
[Saul] said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings.” And Saul offered up the burnt offering. — 1 Samuel 13:9 Samuel had told Saul to wait for him seven days 1 Sam 10:8. But the Philistines came with a vast army and chariots, and “all the troops with Saul were quaking with fear” v6-7. So, Saul took matters into his own hands. So, Saul decided to make the offering himself. He decided that he was in charge and that they didn’t need to do things God’s way. But when Samuel arrived, he told Saul, “You have done a foolish thing. . .. Now your kingdom will not endure . . . because you have not kept the Lord’s command” v13-14.
God gave Saul everything he needed to succeed, but Saul is brought down by his own wrong choices. And it all began when Saul gave in to fear. Giving in to fear can hurt us in so many ways as Christians. When we are afraid to step out in faith, we can cripple God’s plans for our lives. When we are afraid of what others think, we can hold back on sharing the gospel and doing God’s will. When we are afraid of the circumstances around us, we can be tempted to do the wrong thing and go against God’s word. Sometimes the problems we face in life seem overwhelming. We don’t know the way forward. We don’t know how we can cope.
Let us not run out of patience nor give in to fear. The apostle Paul certainly felt that way at times. Listen to his testimony from 2 Corinthians 4: “We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9.

PRAYER
Lord in times of uncertainty, help me trust in you at all times, rather than insisting on my way. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
