Christ Peace!

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. . .. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom. — Colossians 3:15-16

We live in a world that is fractured by conflict and opposition. Our culture feeds on strife, argument, hatred, and bitterness. Peace seems allusive in almost every aspect of our society and unfortunately, the church and our homes often experience the same kinds of unrest. God calls us to salvation and then binds us to Him and one another. When we practice His precepts, we are modeling Christian community and unity that shows a broken world our Jesus and what He can do for them Romans. 5:1; Philippians 4:6-7; Hebrews 6:1. It’s our responsibility to speak the truth in love. Christ’s command to “love one another” addresses us as members of a body with a deep concern for one another. “Teach and admonish,” as our text puts it, could also be translated as “teach and instruct” or “teach and counsel.” It’s a matter of pointing one another in the right direction, based on a genuine concern for people’s well-being. And it must be carried out with the right motives. Yes! Sometimes our honest counsel on the truth won’t be heard and maybe misunderstood. Sometimes you will also be despised. But it requires an attitude of staying focus even when all hell is released on you.

Living together in unity and harmony calls for bearing with each other and forgiving one another. We forgive because the Lord has forgiven us. Love binds all these actions together, making it possible for Christ’s peace to rule in our hearts. Whenever we speak, may we do so with love, and bring peace.

PRAYER

Lord, help us to always act with the right motive as we fellowship with each other and reach out to the unsaved. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
