Barriers Broken
Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all and is in all.
— John 4:9
With advances in communication technology, we now live in a world called a “Global village”. But in this global village, there is still fighting going on between countries. Instant e-mails and text messaging don’t automatically bring peace nor create an understanding community. In this global village, there is also Ethnic prejudice and tribal tensions brooding hatred, violence, Etc. But there is one community whose very identity transcends these tensions. Jesus commissioned his disciples to take the gospel to the world and by that gospel to shape a single community of Christ-centered people Matthew 28:18-20. As Paul puts it in terms of the people in his day, there is no Jew or Gentile. In Paul’s day, the Jewish community identified itself as the true people of God. Everyone else, even those who were civilized and cultured, were considered Gentiles, Greeks, barbarians. But Paul announces that Christ breaks through those walls of separation and tensions.
Romans 12:5 …, so in Christ, we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. …, Living out this vision today means that Christians must not build walls where none should exist. I think we often give priority to activities, schedules, and programs. But people must come first. The church of Christ is bigger than any congregation or denomination. Yes! it reaches beyond small circles and connects with believers of different backgrounds and cultures. Let’s take a step to enlarge the circle of our Christian acquaintance with other saints.

PRAYER
Lord, forgive us for brooding tribal & cultural differences in the Church. Build us into a Christ-centered people. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
