Appointed by God

‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me.. — Acts 26:16

A “servant” focuses on doing his master’s will. And a “witness” testifies to what he or she has seen and personally experienced. And as redeemed children of God, we’re called to do both. Let’s look at each one individually. Firstly, we’re God’s servants; this means our ears must be attuned to what He wants us to do, when He wants us to do it, in the way He wants it done. Doing His will should be the most important item on our daily agenda. Secondly, we’re His witnesses; the value of a witness depends on how close they were to an event when it happened, and what they observed. John writes, “We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands…Now we testify” 1Jn 1:1-2. Remember the old adage “you become like the company you keep”. The point here is when we spend time with Jesus each day as our Lord and Savior we become influenced by His lifestyle; Acts 4:13 “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus”, Acts 11:26 … “The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch”. "Christians". (= "Christ-people"). The community named them “Christians.” Why? Because of the message they were sending. The church and disciples walked like Christ, talked like Christ, had integrity like Christ, ministered like Christ, were servant leaders like Christ; in short, they just lived Christ.

Understanding of this truth and living it, is paramount to our faith. Like Paul we all have been appointed by God for the GREAT COMMISSION as His servants and witnesses.

PRAYER

Lord, give me understanding to function as your servant and witness that I may fulfill my assignment. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
