CASNFCI SCRIPTURE & PRAYER FOR THE DAY

A mother’s need:
Jesus … said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” — John 19:26-27
Since the Baptism of Jesus in Matthew 3:13-17, Jesus knew that it was time for him to leave Joseph’s carpenter shop and begin his public ministry of teaching and healing. Things were never quite the same after that. From that time on, Mary was only able to love her son from a distance: on the edge of a crowd, outside a packed house, at the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Maybe she was even there when Jesus taught, “Everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life” Matthew 19:29. Mary witnessed the crucifixion from the foot of the cross. Can you even imagine how she must have felt? Jesus turns to John, one of his disciples, and his mother and says, let him stand in my place as your son. History has it that John lived a very long life, and I believe from that time on, John cared for Mary as a member of his household just as Jesus instructed.
On the cross, bearing the weight of the sins of the whole world, yet He sees a mother’s need and reached out to her; showing all of us today how important and possible it is to care and love even in the darkest hours.
Galatians 6:9-10 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Let our love count even the darkest hour.

PRAYER
Lord, even in the darkest moments, help us to stay focused, obeying your word and honoring your will before men. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
